Hype for the much anticipated Carter VI has been on since Lil Wayne announced it during last year’s Young Money Reunion performance. Lil Wayne said, “ I am working on Carter VI, coming soon,” before dramatically dropping the mic and heading backstage. Later on, a video of him and Juelz Santana, an emcee, emerged of the duo in the studio, proving that the much-decorated artist is genuinely working on the anticipated album. Other videos of Lil Wayne in a recording booth with captions like Carter 6 and of him playing electric guitar furthershow signs that the album will drop this year.
If you have been following hip-hop news, you will know that the last of Tha Carter album series, as they are widely known, came out in 2018, and fans have been asking for more ever since, owing to the success of the previous albums with hit songs. The Carter VI will be Lil Wayne’s first album after a two-year break, with his latest album being the Funeral, released in January 2020. So, why all the hype? The Funeral, his 13th studio album, peaked in charts like the Billboard 200, making it his fifth album to fair well in the charts. Others that enjoyed this success include Carter III, IV, V, and I Am Not A Human Being. The other albums also have songs you can enjoy while waiting for the new album.
Little is known about collaborations, but you might witness some union, like in some of Lil Wayne’s hit jams. You can expect rappers like Drake and Nicky Minaj, although not confirmed yet. For certainty, you will have to wait until the album drops. You can also follow some famous rappers, emcees, and DJs for heads on such a development.
