National Album Day Celebrates Great British Groups with Seven Vinyl Releases on October 19, 2024

National Album Day returns on Saturday 19th October 2024 and this year will be themed around Great British Groups, following previous editions that included Women in Music, Debut Albums and, just last year, the 90s.

Presented in association with official broadcast partner BBC Radio 2 and now in its seventh year since launching in 2018, National Album Day sees the music community come together once again to celebrate and promote the art of the album.

All Saints’ iconic self-titled album is finally making its debut on 1LP vinyl with a limited-edition green colourway. With the signature blend of pop, R&B, and hip-hop, this release brings forth the timeless allure of the British girl group’s chart-topping hits, including “Never Ever,” “Under the Bridge,” and “Bootie Call.”

Babyshambles’ acclaimed 2007 album Shotter’s Nation will be available on 1LP clear vinyl. Taken from the original masters when Pete Doherty was at the pinnacle of his creative powers, Shotter’s Nation followed in the footsteps “Down In Albion,” the band’s debut album, and Doherty’s first album outside of his first band – the era-defining Libertines. Both were met with commercial and critical acclaim, breaking into the Top 10 of the album charts.

Idlewild’s fourth album Warnings/Promises has been certified Silver by the BPI and it’s the band’s second to break into the Top 10 following the success of their previous album, The Remote Part. After the release of The Remote Part, the band had a change in personnel with Gavin Fox replacing bassist Bob Fairfoull and touring guitarist Allan Stewart became a permanent member. Warnings/Promises saw them take a different approach to the writing process, involving the whole band for the first time with a sound that marked a shift towards melodic rock as well as contemporary folk. A more stripped back sound than their previous albums, it featured the singles “I Understand It,” “El Capitan,” and lead single “Love Steals Us From Loneliness.”

The Animals were a British rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962. They were a key player in the British Invasion of the United States in the mid-1960s and are best known for their raw sound that combined rock, blues, and rhythm and blues. The band’s lineup initially consisted of Eric Burdon (lead vocals), Hilton Valentine (lead guitar), Chas Chandler (bass guitar), Alan Price (keyboards), and John Steel (drums). This October marks the 60th Anniversary of The Animals’ self-titled debut album. Having never been reissued on vinyl before, the 60th Anniversary Edition sees the album pressed on yellow vinyl and adds the hit “House of the Rising Sun” to the track list which was only released as a single at the time. The album remains a staple in the classic rock canon and is recognised for its crucial role in the evolution of rock music during the 1960s. Its influence can still be felt in various genres and continues to resonate with new generations of listeners.

The Proclaimers, formed by twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid emerged in 1987. The duo are renowned for their singing style with a distinct Scottish accent and their infectiously melodic songs about love, politics, and life in Scotland. Well-known for their most memorable songs “Sunshine on Leith”, “I’m On My Way”, “Letter from America” and of course, the hit single “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”. This Is the Story is the debut studio album from The Proclaimers, originally released in 1987 and celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It contains the Gerry Rafferty-produced full band version of “Letter from America”, which reached number 3 in the UK Single Chart.

At the end of their US tour in June 1985 The Sisters of Mercy effectively split up. Returning in November 1987 with ‘Floodland’ (UK #9), and still aided by the trusty Doktor Avalanche, Eldritch hired former Gun Club and Fur Bible bassist Patricia Morrison to complete the new line-up. Featuring the hit singles ‘This Corrosion’ (UK #7), ‘Dominion’ (UK #13) and ‘Lucretia My Reflection’ (UK #20), production duties were shared with none other than famed Meat Loaf writer Jim Steinman. Available for National Album Day on 1LP black ice galaxy vinyl for a limited run.

The Stranglers are a British rock band formed in 1974, known for their eclectic sound that blends punk, new wave, and post-punk influences. With their distinctive blend of dark, often provocative lyrics and innovative instrumentation, they carved a unique niche in the music scene. Their 1981 album “La Folie” marked a notable evolution in their style, showcasing an embrace of new wave elements while retaining their signature edginess. The album features the hit single “Golden Brown,” which gained widespread acclaim for its haunting melody and unique rhythmic structure, encapsulating the band’s ability to merge art and rock music. “La Folie” solidified The Stranglers’ reputation as one of the most innovative and enduring acts of their era. Available for National Album Day on 1LP translucent pink vinyl for a limited run.
