Neon Books proudly presents the 2nd edition of Punk Under the Sun: ’80s Punk and New Wave in South Florida, a comprehensive and visually stunning chronicle of Miami and Fort Lauderdale’s vibrant punk and New Wave scenes. Originally published in October 2023, the new edition—set for release in November 2024—continues to shed light on the music, art, and alternative culture that defined South Florida in the 1980s.
Authored by Joey Seeman and Chris Potash, who were integral participants in the scene, Punk Under the Sun documents the underground movement that thrived amid Miami’s rapid transformation. The full-color, 222-page softcover book features nearly 400 never-before-seen photographs, along with fliers, posters, advertisements, stickers, and graphics that capture the raw energy of the era.
The book details iconic bands such as Screaming Sneakers, The Cichlids, Tight Squeeze, The Kids (featuring Johnny Depp), Charlie Pickett & the Eggs, Critical Mass, The Eat, and The Reactions, alongside legendary acts like The Ramones, Replacements, Black Flag, Hüsker Dü, and Dead Kennedys, who made the trek to play venues like the Cameo Theater.
