Da Crook Champions Toronto’s Rap Scene In Unapologetic Album Release “Who Decides War”

Today, Toronto rap maverick Da Crook adds another dimension to his artistry, with the release of Who Decides War available now on all streaming platforms. Who Decides War is unapologetic and compelling, with Da Crook unafraid to get personal with internal battles with his distinctive style and elegant approach to showcasing his unique sense of self. Combining lyrical finesse, and passionate wordplay with a meticulous selection of hypnotizing production from West Coast producers like Regime Made it, Jay on the Juice and Suro, the body of work which can only be described as beautiful art derived from chaos, offers a perspective from someone who’s at street level, packaged raw and structured.

The opening track “Fight or Flight” reflects on Da Crook’s personal hardships of losing friends to the system, while “16 Grammys & Oscars” depicts not only his growth as an artist, but resounding determination to come out on top. The project sees a dynamic collaboration with Detroit sensation Skilla Baby on “Down”, and channels Crook’s romantic side with “All I Want Is You” a heartfelt melodic rhythm featuring notable Toronto rapper NorthSideBenji, that sheds a light on the unadulterated wants, desires, and temptations of love. Both features add another layer of intrigue to the Toronto native and emphasize the unique cultural influences from both cities that shape the rappers’ identities.

Of the album, Da Crook recounts “I am now dedicating myself entirely to music, and this new single and rollout will showcase a heightened version of myself…I’m grateful for the ongoing support and excited to reveal more of what’s in store.”

Previous to the album release was his first single of the year “Fight or Flight”, which saw Da Crook vividly portraying the intricacies of his life, and choices made to protect his community. He continues to establish an undeniable presence in Toronto’s hip hop scene, recently opening on tour for Warner Records artist Veeze amongst others.

Da Crook, born and raised in the vibrant streets of Toronto’s west end discovered his passion for music through the raw and influential sounds of Biggie, Camron, and Jadakiss. At a young age, Crook’s dedication to authenticity and the growth of his craft were cemented as the cornerstone of his artistic and life journey.Fast-forward to the present day, Da Crook has established an undeniable presence for himself in Toronto’s hip-hop scene. His sound is a perfect combination of lyrical finesse that exudes confidence – which is layered over a meticulous selection of authentic and hypnotizing production. Crook adds another dimension to his artistry, by tapping into the heartfelt realities of his upbringing in Toronto, where he demonstrates a unique style and an elegant approach to his music. Da Crook has championed the Toronto music scene with hits like “Kickstart,” “Take A Trip,” “Talk Facts”, and “Swervin’” – which have collectively amassed over 5 million streams across streaming platforms.Crook has accepted the responsibility of being the next hip-hop ambassador coming out of Canada’s largest city. He is determined to paint a vivid artistic picture of his journey, lifestyle, and experience – shaping new narratives and discourse through his music.

Modern AV Equipment Kicks Your Event Up a Notch

By Mitch Rice

When the famous Canadian academic Marshall McLuhan said, “the medium is the message,” he meant that the same message will be perceived very differently depending on how it’s delivered. Decades ago, radio features differed tremendously from TV broadcasts — the substance of the speech meant more on radio, but someone also needed to be photogenic for maximum appeal on TV.

In the digital age, today’s event holders are wise to consider the implications of this underlying idea, even if they’re using neither medium. Technical problems are unacceptable, as the AV equipment needs to impress their audience, or their message’s substance may get lost in the shuffle.

Let’s check out how the leading AV rental companies can kick your event up a notch.

Premium Equipment

It’s essential to get the basics done well, so industry leaders like Toronto AudioVisualRentals.ca offer premium equipment that ensures all video and audio are crisp. Guests should have no trouble seeing and hearing live streams or speakers.

It’s a little unforgiving because anyone considering working with you may shy away if the AV is of poor quality, but getting it right doesn’t guarantee their business, either. Proper sound and visuals are a prerequisite to running a solid event, but it’s not going to wow your event’s attendees.

3D Mapping

Thankfully, leading AV equipment has evolved beyond just showing people on screens or letting them talk through speakers. 3D mapping manages to cast whatever visuals you have onto 3D objects, rather than just 2D screens.

Imagine if you could cast your branding and logos on the façade of the building hosting the event, so attendees walk through it when they enter. You can get creative and run with this idea so long as you have the right equipment.

Installations

The best equipment in the world won’t make a good impression on your audience if it isn’t installed properly. Most people running events have people and places to see and can’t be everywhere all at once.

Trust the premier AV equipment rental businesses to expertly install their gear so it’ll be there when you need it and work flawlessly.

Consultations and Other Services

Everybody understands how a microphone and screen work, but there’s more to an event than having the basic equipment. Does your event currently have a floor plan? Do you understand the capabilities of all the equipment you’re renting?

Leading AV rental companies can deliver the equipment, set it up, and remain on-site to handle everything. If you want to save some money by handling it yourself, they can deliver the equipment and leave you to it.

From planning the event beforehand to staying on-site afterwards to help clean and return everything, they will have your back throughout the entire process. Whether it’s a corporate conference, trade show, charity event, or whatever else, the best AV rentals give you constant support.

Those leading events need to focus on the core of their value proposition and business model, not the technical equipment needed to spread their messages. If they pair with an AV rental company that ticks off all the boxes above, they’ll be free to focus on what matters most.

Aerosmith Historic Farewell Tour “Peace Out” Continues In 2024

Today, four-time GRAMMY award-winning and diamond-certified rock legends Aerosmith announce their return to the road with PEACE OUT featuring special guests The Black Crowes, who are fresh off their first release in nearly 15 years, HAPPINESS BASTARDS. Additionally, a very special one-night-only performance from Teddy Swims is set at the tour kickoff in Pittsburgh, PA. Fans first heard that one of the most significant American rock bands in history were embarking on their final tour with a special announcement video celebrating this not-to-be-missed final tour.

Every night will pay homage to the five decades of Aerosmith’s groundbreaking hits as they celebrate over 50 years as America’s greatest rock band. In addition, THX will bring their THX Certified Live! high-fidelity experience on the road, calibrating each arena with leading-edge technology so fans don’t miss a beat of Aerosmith’s classic rock tunes in quality audio.

Produced by Live Nation, the monumental 40-date North American tour will include 3 news shows in addition to the rescheduled dates. PEACE OUT™ is set to kick off in Pittsburgh, PA and include stops in iconic arenas across the U.S. and Canada, including Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, New York’s Madison Square Garden, Austin’s Moody Center, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, Chicago’s United Center, Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, and more before wrapping in Montreal, QC at Bell Centre on January 26, 2025. A highlight of the tour will be a stop in Boston for a special hometown show on New Year’s Eve 2024.

When the tour originally kicked off in September 2023, the Associated Press lauded it as “positively brilliant,” while USA Today noted that “the band was in peak form for this victory lap.” Echoing this sentiment, the Philadelphia Inquirer praised Aerosmith’s “ability to make such a grand-scale performance feel like a raw and raucous club date,” while PEOPLE described the show as “epic,” declaring that “Aerosmith is peacing out with a bang.” The 2024 run promises fans an electrifying show of Aerosmith’s groundbreaking hits performed in an immersive 360° production as they celebrate 50 years as America’s greatest rock band.

Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Aerosmith have sold more than 150 million albums around the world, produced genre-defining music videos such as “Amazing,” “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,” “Livin’ On The Edge,” and “Love In An Elevator,” and launched extravagant record-shattering global tours, most recently with their smash hit Las Vegas residency. The band has broken numerous boundaries, including becoming the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance, and in 1999, Aerosmith became the first band to have their own themed attraction at Disney World in Florida and later Paris with the launch of the Rock ‘N’ Roller coaster starring Aerosmith. The Black Crowes are leaving the bullshit in the past. 15 years after their last album of original music, the Robinson Brothers present Happiness Bastards – their 10th studio album. Some may say the project has been several tumultuous years in the making, but we argue it’s arriving at just the right time. Call it brotherly love or music destiny that brought them back together, the highly anticipated record consecrating the reunion of this legendary band just may be the thing that saves rock & roll. In a time where the art form is buried beneath the corporate sheen of its successors, The Black Crowes are biting back with the angst of words left unsaid penned on paper and electrified by guitar strings, revealing stripped, bare-boned rock & roll. No gloss, no glitter, just rhythm and blues at its very best – gritty, loud, and in your face. Since The Black Crowes reunited in 2019, they’ve made a triumphant return to form with over 150 shows spanning 20 countries worldwide, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Shake Your Money Maker, the album that put them on the map. The Robinson Brothers and longtime bassist Sven Pipien headed to the studio with producer Jay Joyce in early 2023 and the experiences of years past transcribed themself through the music as the band found their way back to their roots. And it’s finally here – Happiness Bastards is out now.

Deaf Culture, Access, and Entertainment Give Voice To Award-Winning Documentary Film ‘SIGN THE SHOW’

Four-time award-winning documentary feature film, SIGN THE SHOW, from Filmmaker/Educator Cat Brewer, gives voice to Deaf culture and the quest for access to live entertainment events in America. Currently streaming on TUBI, the film will go wide on AppleTV, Google Play, and more from distributor Global Digital Releasing, beginning March 21st in celebration of National Deaf Awareness Month this April.

Executive produced by Rapper/Artist/TV Star Waka Flocka Flame and Deaf Leader/Deaf Interpreter Matt Maxey, the film features superstar entertainers Kelly Clarkson, D.L. Hughley, André 3000, Camryn Manheim, Chance The Rapper, Nyle DiMarco, Andrew Santino, Pat Monahan, JB Smoove, Chuck D., and many others.

SIGN THE SHOW immerses the audience in humorous, heartfelt, and insightful conversations about the need and value of providing accessibility through every element of entertainment and learning how to do so, starting with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH) community.

A first-time director, Brewer produced the project under her Strong Brew Productions banner. To help, she brought in SXSW and 15x award-winning Filmmaker and Creative Advocate Sara Hirsh Bordo as executive producer.

SIGN THE SHOW first gained attention on the festival circuit with screenings at 21 festivals across the country and a sold-out crowd on opening night at 2023 Slamdance, known for showcasing emerging artists and innovative filmmaking. Along the way, the informative and compelling film has picked up numerous accolades, including Grand Prize Best Documentary Feature at Silver State, Spirit of Action Award at Santa Cruz, and Best First Time Filmmaker at Love Wins Int’l.

Brewer set out on this journey after noticing an ASL interpreter at a live concert, “After speaking with the interpreter and then communicating with the Deaf concertgoers via the interpreter, I was first heartbroken and then angered when I learned about the incredible challenges this community faces when trying to access live entertainment…something I’ve taken for granted my entire life. I shared my unsettled feelings with a friend who encouraged me to make a documentary… and so I did.”

Although she is new to filmmaking, Brewer is no stranger to education. A college Communication instructor for over 21 years, she has a knack for connecting, communicating, and hustling with gratitude and love. Passionate about educating and advocating for things she believes in, Brewer bought a camera and traveled across the country interviewing over 50 different entertainers, dozens of Deaf and HOH individuals, and ASL interpreters.

“I hope Sign the Show creates a cultural shift in the entertainment industry by making open access to live entertainment the norm for a more inclusive world,” explains Brewer.

Spotify’s Impact In The Canadian Music Ecosystem

Spotify makes clear that its support for Canadian artists could be at risk as a result of new costs introduced by the CRTC and disrupt the impact they’ve made so far. As they’ve shared, Spotify has serious concerns that the CRTC’s current system excludes Canadian success stories. You can read more in their blog here, Canadian Music Has Evolved Into a Global Export. Canada Must Evolve With It.

So, how are Canadian artists fairing overall?  Here’s a look at a few key takeaways:

Canadian artists are discovered more than ever

  • In 2023, Canadian artists were discovered by first time listeners more than 3.8B times on Spotify.
  • In 2023, over 4,500 Canadian artists were added to editorial playlists on Spotify.

More money is being distributed to Canadian artists

  • In 2023, royalties generated by Canadian artists from Spotify alone more than doubled compared to 2018, exceeding $435M CAD.
  • 92% of all royalties generated by Canadian artists on Spotify in 2023 were from listeners outside of Canada.
  • The number of Canadian artists who generated over $50,000 CAD and the number of Canadian artists who generated over $100,000 CAD in royalties from Spotify alone has more than doubled since 2017.
  • Approximately 40% of all royalties generated by artists in Canada on Spotify in 2023 were by independent artists or labels.

But the Canadian music market’s revenue is also growing. According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) Global Music Report—which is an assessment on the music industry as a whole—Canada is outpacing the global industry with 12.2% revenue growth last year (compared to 10.2% globally). And on Spotify, Canadian artists are generating revenue at an even faster rate: When compared to 2022, their revenue grew by more than 15% in 2023.
