With music reflecting their own lives and collective experiences, their songwriting stays true to traditional bluegrass.

The band’s die-hard fans travel in droves across the country and pack multiple-night show runs at iconic venues like Red Rocks and The Ryman. “As songwriters and musicians, we have a need for people to be on board, we’re not just regurgitating the same shit,” explains Bruzza.Hoffman adds, “We aren’t a band all for money. We did it for romantic reasons such as love, catharsis, and because it mattered to us and the listeners.

It would be easy to make decisions based on our needs to eat or the desires of others, but that’s not doing it for love. We love what we do, and we’re grateful for the love we receive in return from the people listening.” Bruzza continues, “I hope they know we’re doing this for us and them.”

An electric live performer, Flores released his first live album, Live At Cain’s Ballroom, earlier this year via Island Records (stream/purchase here). Recorded during Flores’ sold-out shows at Tulsa’s Cain’s Ballroom this past December, the album features songs from across his catalogue as well as a cover of Turnpike Troubadours’ “Ringing In The Year,” and led Country Cue to praise, “a compelling live recording that masterfully captures the authentic spirit of his performances.”

The live project adds to a breakout year for Flores, who released his full-length debut album, Welcome to the Plains, this past fall (stream/purchase here). Produced by Beau Bedford (Orville Peck, Shane Smith & The Saints), the project details Flores’ journey as he balances the struggle of leaving his hometown of Stillwater, OK with the highs and lows of life on the road. In celebration of the release, Flores was recently featured as part of NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series, made his late-night television debut on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” performed on “CBS Saturday Morning”and spoke with NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

Born and raised in Oklahoma, the Mexican-American artist has established himself as one of country music’s most vital voices with his three previous EPs, including Half Life. Receiving widespread critical attention, The New York Timespraised, “Wyatt Flores…Has a Superpower: Tapping Emotions,” while NPR Music declared, “a fantastic record…he is making a big splash out there” and Holler proclaimed, “Flores at his gloriously life affirming, existential best.”

Flores has also been recognized as one of Rolling Stone’s 25 “Future of Music” artists, received a nomination for Emerging Act of the Year at the 2024 Americana Honors & Awards, was selected as Amazon’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year, included in Spotify’s Hot Country Class of 2024 and CMT’s Listen Up class, and made his Grand Ole Opry debut. Additionally, Flores has garnered over 325 million streams to date, saw his 2022 breakout single, “Please Don’t Go,” scale the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and had his song, “Before I Do,” with Jake Kohn featured on the soundtrack for the Twisters movie. National Music Centre Marks 325 Years of the Piano with a New Exhibition Opening on World Piano Day, March 29

The National Music Centre (NMC) is pleased to announce Piano 325, a new exhibition celebrating the 325th anniversary of the piano – an instrument that revolutionized music and continues to inspire musicians across genres. It opens in time for World Piano Day on March 29.

Over 325 years, the piano – shaped by the innovations of countless builders and manufacturers – has remained one of the most important and versatile instruments in music, influencing nearly every genre and artists from Beethoven to Elton John.

Piano 325, displayed in the Cloud Lounge on the fifth floor of Studio Bell, will spotlight the stories of the builders and manufacturers who played key roles in the instrument’s evolution and lasting impact on music. The exhibition will feature renowned names like Broadwood & Sons, Erard, Heintzman & Co., and Steinway & Sons, alongside lesser-known pioneers like Johannes Zumpe.

A rotating selection of rare and historic instruments from NMC’s collection will also be showcased, beginning with an 1899 Broadwood grand piano, originally exhibited at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, a world fair that introduced groundbreaking innovations of its time.

In addition to regularly showcasing historic pianos from NMC’s archives, visitors will get the chance to experience featured pianos in action with live demonstrations on weekends. The exhibition kicks off with performances by musician and music educator Kenna Burima (March 29) and pianist and composer Sarah Houston (March 30). For a full lineup of featured performers, visit studiobell.ca/whats-on.

“The piano is one of the most influential and adaptable instruments in history,” said Andrew Mosker, President and CEO of the National Music Centre. “In honour of the piano’s 325th anniversary, we’ll be giving visitors an opportunity to learn how this remarkable invention has shaped music as we know it.”

“We’re exploring the NMC archive to showcase some of our rarest and most exquisite pieces that have left a lasting mark on music history,” said Jesse Moffatt, Senior Director of Collections and Exhibitions at the National Music Centre. “Throughout the year, we’ll be rotating our most cherished pianos, allowing visitors to witness the piano’s extraordinary journey.”

Piano 325 is accessible with paid admission to Studio Bell and will run from March 29, 2025-January 11, 2026.

Wale Returns with ‘Blanco’—A Raw, Soulful Look at Struggle and Self-Reflection

Today, Grammy-nominated rap legend Wale has made his highly anticipated return with new single “Blanco”. The single is out now, available on all digital streaming platforms via Def Jam Recordings. Listen here.

“Blanco” marks Wale’s first release in 2025, building on his legacy as one of rap’s most enduring and versatile artists and adding to a chart-topping catalogue which includes Platinum and Gold records “Bad,” “Lotus Flower Bomb,” “My P.Y.T.” and more. This somber, bluesy record builds on Wale’s long-standing tradition of nuanced storytelling with a newfound vulnerability, as he shares his own heartfelt vocals on the hook. Through “Blanco”, Wale takes an unorthodox approach to his return, divulging with his fans the harsh realities of relying on alcohol to cope with life’s challenges.

Wale shared his intentions behind the record stating, “Artists spend years hiding behind bravado…’Blanco’ strips all that away. It’s the beginning of a more honest conversation I want to have with my audience and how I feel, and I want to give people an opportunity to connect with a more vulnerable side of my artistry.”

As one of the DMV’s most celebrated MCs, Wale has collaborated with chart topping artists including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, SZA, Miguel, Rick Ross and more. Wale returned to music in 2023, following a brief hiatus, with a new deal under Def Jam Recordings. His return was marked by a feature on Odumodublvck’s “Blood On The Dance Floor” which went #1 in Nigeria for 8 weeks. Shortly approaching is The Album About Nothing’s 10 year anniversary which peaked #1 on Billboard 200.

“Blanco” is available now on all streaming platforms. For more updates on what Wale has planned for this year, follow him on Instagram.

Wale has been one of rap’s most versatile and enduring artists since his breakout 2008 mixtape, A Mixtape About Nothing. Blending striking social commentary, confident lyricism, Seinfeld-inspired irony, and anthemic storytelling, he helped merge backpack rap with mainstream success, earning Platinum and Gold plaques along the way. Born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin to Nigerian immigrant parents in Washington, D.C., he pursued football in college before shifting to music, scoring his first local hit with 2006’s “Dig Dug (Shake It).” His critically acclaimed A Mixtape About Nothing solidified his reputation for tackling complex themes with nuance, paving the way for a major-label debut, Attention Deficit (2009), and later success with Ambition (2011), The Gifted (2013), The Album About Nothing (2015), and more. Aligning with Rick Ross’ MMG, he delivered Platinum hits like “Lotus Flower Bomb” and “My P.Y.T.,” proving his staying power. After a brief hiatus following Folarin II (2019), Wale returned in 2023 with a new deal at Def Jam, a #1 Nigerian hit, and a Kennedy Center headline show celebrating The Gifted. Now, with his highly anticipated eighth album on the horizon, he’s ready to begin his next chapter as one of hip-hop’s greatest writers.

Ian Leslie’s ‘”John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs’ Will Change The Way You Think (And Listen To) The Beatles

John & Paul is a sweeping biography that captures the profound relationship between two young geniuses who reshaped music history. It begins in 1957, when two teenagers from Liverpool, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, bonded over rock & roll. Over the next two decades, they became global icons, crafting some of the most indelible songs ever recorded. Their collaboration was built on more than friendship or rivalry—it was an intimate creative partnership driven by a shared longing for deep emotional connection. When words failed them, they turned to music, pouring their grief, joy, and everything in between into songs that defined generations.

After The Beatles’ breakup, their dialogue continued through music, filled with longing, regret, and affection. John & Paul explores the twists and turns of their complex relationship through the art it produced, offering fresh insights into creativity, collaboration, and the human need for connection. Drawing from recently released recordings and unseen footage, Ian Leslie delivers a deeply moving and revelatory biography that allows us to see and hear Lennon and McCartney like never before.
