The Music Industry’s Most-Loved Albums Of All Time, Part 51
This is part 51 of an ongoing series where the kind folk of the music business reveal their favourite album of all time.
Ask people in the music industry the seemingly simple and straightforward question, “What is your favourite album of all time?” and you’ll find that it’s not always easy. After all, my industry peers listen to hundreds of albums a month and thousands of songs during that time. Because the question isn’t the best album of all time or the one that’s made them the most money in sales, or the most clicked-on review, but the one release they personally can’t live without, that one title they have two copies of in several formats, in case one breaks. It’s also about that album that for them has the best back stories and the one that has the most meaning in their lives.

Rush, Permanent Waves and Twenty One Pilots, Blurryface
As a 52-year-old rock-and-roller, this is my all-time go-to album. In recent months, I may have replaced that formidable Toronto trio with an Ohio duo named Twenty One Pilots. Their second album, “Blurry Face,” contains so much good material it’s hard to guess which songs will NOT be hits as commercial radio looks for follow-up airplay to the now omnipresent “Stressed Out.” Not since Rush have I heard such intriguing, original, erudite, and just plain amazing music.
Dan Young, Afternoon Show Host – Music and Creative Services Director, SOS Radio Network, Las Vegas
The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
I first discovered it in my parent’s vinyl collection when I was 7 or 8 years old. I had grown up listening to a lot of Beatles, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, The Who, etc… but for some reason, this particular record really struck me. It had such a wide range of sounds and textures. There was a depth to the songs; happy, sad, introspective, celebratory. It all flowed in a single narrative, but not as a full-blown concept album. It seemed to me that it was created by a group of brilliantly creative minds who had finally decided to throw away the rule book. Listening to that album over and over again in my room, I knew that music was always going to be a big part of my life. Those songs inspired me to begin a life-long exploration.

Adorable, Against Perfection
It is often lumped into the genre of Shoegaze, but it is much more than that infusing elements of post-punk, pop and alternative rock. The album is brilliant start to finish, but contains my personal favourite song of all time “Sunshine Smile”. A highly under rated band that still has a very loyal fan base. The singer, Pete Fij, is still making music and is currently partnered with House Of Love guitarist Terry Bickers.
Molly Hudelson, Circles & Soundwaves
Good Charlotte, The Young and the Hopeless
There are a lot of albums I love, but choosing a favorite was easy: The Young and the Hopeless was the first CD I bought with my own money, and it’s the album that made me fall in love with music. I’d heard a few songs- “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”, “The Anthem”, “Girls & Boys”- on the radio and at school dances, and when I listened to the album I discovered what it meant to have a favorite band. I didn’t just enjoy the songs, I felt like they were mine: I related to the lyrics and felt like the Madden brothers knew what I was going through when they wrote them. TYATH made me fall in love with music, and was a huge part in shaping me to be who I am today.

The Slaight Family Foundation announces $1,000,000 pledge to The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada
The Slaight Family Foundation has announced they will be donating $1,000,000 over a four-year period to The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada as part of their Children and Youth Initiative. This donation is the largest pledge in Children’s Wish history and will provide tremendous support for the newly launched More Wishes, More Wonders Campaign across Canada. This exciting announcement was made at 11:00a.m., today at Daniels Spectrum in the Regent Park neighbourhood.
The Slaight Family Foundation is working in partnership with 11 national organizations to provide new or expanded services to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of children in Canada. Children’s Wish is honoured to be included in this charitable initiative and is grateful for the support of The Slaight Family Foundation to expand our wish granting capabilities.
“We hope these gifts provide them with the resources to help children lead healthy, successful and positive lives. We would also encourage others to support these national initiatives for the betterment of Canadian children and youth,” said Gary Slaight, President and CEO of Slaight Family Foundation.
As the largest and only all-Canadian wish granting charity, with over thirty years of granting 23,000 of the most heartfelt wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses, Children’s Wish is now expanding its reach to include children with serious neurological and genetic diagnoses. These at-risk children have complex care and mobility challenges and are dependent on their families for their day-to-day activities. Thanks in part to the generous support of The Slaight Family Foundation, granting wishes to this new group of deserving children is now becoming a reality.
Advances in medicine and technology are now making it possible for children with these diagnoses to survive into young adulthood. But while science may have extended their lives, these children and their families face incredible challenges as they struggle with the need for constant care and hospitalization, as well as severe special needs and developmental delays. Through field work and strong medical community partnerships, Children’s Wish has responded to this real and urgent request.
“It’s an opportunity for the entire family to be together, to spend a day where the entire focus is on their enjoyment, on making memories and doing things that are really exciting and wonderful without having the focus be on the child and the medical complexity,” says Dr. Jeremy Friedman, Associate Pediatrician-in-Chief at Sick Kids Hospital and Children’s Wish Medical Advisor.

David Bowie Comic Book Pays Tribute To The Iconic Singer
After his untimely death earlier this month, David Bowie left behind more than a legacy of memorable songs, but bequeathed an indelible imprint on popular culture as well. Storm Entertainment captures this spirit in a new tribute comic book biography released this week.
Tribute: David Bowie, available in both print and digital, follows the enigmatic artist’s innovative career from his through early days as David Jones through his ever-changing metamorphoses into a rock god, tortured artist, thin white duke and blinded prophet.
Written by Mike Lynch and Michael L. Frizell with art by George Amaru and Vincenzo Sansone, the book pays homage to one of the most influential artists any generation, constantly reinventing himself while defying convention. The one-shot features three collectable covers by Sansone, David Frizell, and Graham Hill.
The book builds on the previously published Fame: David Bowie and completes his life story. Fans of Bowie will recognize his transformation from the iconic Ziggy Stardust to Aladdin Sane to pre-punk Berliner to the The Thin White Duke and even in his star turn as the Goblin King in the 1986 movie “Labyrinth.”
“Bowie should not be remembered for his multiple personas, but rather for his desire to push musical and artistic boundaries,” said writer Michael Frizell. “He was on the forefront of so many musical movements; psychedelic, glam, Krautrock, funk, grunge, and his latest post modern masterpiece and farewell gift Black-Star.
Storm Entertainment president Darren G. Davis added, “I hope readers come away with not simply a sense of the richness of his life, but how he influenced practically every artist that came after; regardless of genre.”
The “Tribute” series serves as a pop culture companion to Storm Entertainment’s successful “Female Force,” “Political Power,” “Orbit,” and “Fame” series. The biography comic form allows Storm’s talented writers to delve into the history of certain newsworthy figures and explore what shaped them. The Bizarre Story Of How Lionel Richie Co-Wrote “We Are The World” With Michael Jackson
Lionel Richie has shared the strange story of how he wrote “We Are the World” with Michael Jackson. During an interview with Kevin Spacey that was part of the ceremonies honoring Richie as this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year, Richie remembered:
I’m at Michael’s house trying to write “We Are the World” and his dog is barking and his Mynah bird is yelling “Shut up” [repeatedly at the dog]. I see albums falling over. I look again and see more falling over and there’s an albino python [coming toward me]. I will admit I was screaming like a white woman. Michael goes, “Oh my God, Lionel. There he is, he wants to play with you.” I know you want a spiritual tale about how we brought this song [to’ you, but that’s how it was for three days.
