Bob Dylan – The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12, A Deluxe 6CD Anthology, To Be Released On November 6

Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Bob Dylan’s The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 on Friday, November 6, 2015.

The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series focuses on the legendary studio sessions that produced Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde On Blonde, the trilogy of album masterpieces which secured Dylan’s reputation as a songwriter and performer of unprecedented depth, power and originality while significantly impacting the course of popular music and culture. All recordings included in The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 are pristine transfers and mixed from the original studio tracking tapes.

Importantly, The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 provides a rare exploration into Dylan’s creative process in the studio, allowing fans to experience another side of Bob Dylan through the evolution of his songs and recordings from this truly groundbreaking period.

The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 – Deluxe Edition brings together for the first time many of the most sought-after recordings of the entire Dylan canon. Here, across 6 CDs, are previously unheard Dylan songs, studio outtakes, rehearsal tracks, alternate working versions of familiar hits–including the complete “Like A Rolling Stone” session–and more.

The Best of The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol.12 is available in a 2CD or 3 12″ vinyl LP set and brings together some of the musical high points of the deluxe and super-deluxe collections.

An 18CD Collector’s Edition of The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 will be available exclusively on BobDylan.com. Limited to a worldwide pressing of only 5,000 copies, this 18CD edition will include every note recorded during the 1965-1966 sessions, every alternate take and alternate lyric. All previously unreleased recordings have been mixed, utilizing the original studio tracking tapes as the source, eliminating unwanted 1960s-era studio processing and artifice. The 18CD edition includes Dylan’s original nine mono 45 RPM singles released during the time period, packaged in newly created picture sleeves featuring global images from the era. The limited edition includes rare hotel room recordings from the Savoy Hotel in London (May 4, 1965), the North British Station Hotel in Glasgow (May 13, 1966) and a Denver, Colorado hotel (March 12, 1966) as well as a strip of original film cells from “Don’t Look Back.”

The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 comes with an annotated book featuring hundreds of rare and never-before-seen photographs and memorabilia and new essays penned especially for the collection by Bill Flanagan and Sean Wilentz.

Generally regarded as three of the most important and influential albums of the golden era of 60’s rock, Bringing It All Back Home,Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde On Blonde (a double album) were written and recorded across a span of merely 14 months (fromJanuary 1965 through March 1966) with producers Tom Wilson (Bringing It All Back Home, “Like A Rolling Stone”) in New York andBob Johnston in New York (Highway 61 Revisited) and Nashville (Blonde On Blonde).

Kenny Rogers Announces His Retirement From Touring

For the past 57 years, as sure as the sun would come up in the morning and set in the evening, there was one thing you could count on — Kenny Rogers would soon be coming to a venue near you to perform.

However, that time is now drawing to a close. Kenny Rogers announced on NBC’s The Today Show this morning that his next world tour commencing in 2016 will be his last.

Details and dates for Rogers’ final World Tour will be announced in the coming months.

Today also marks the release his first new Christmas album in seventeen years titled: Once Again It’s Christmas (Warner Bros. / Warner Music Nashville). The festive set is Rogers’ first Christmas release since 1998 and his sixth Christmas release overall.

Big Sugar’s Gordie Johnson Has Pre-War Gibson Six String Banjo Stolen, And You Can Help

I need your help with this one…It seems that musicians are getting their stuff stolen a lot these days, and now it happened to Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar. He just posted this last night on Facebook – if you’re reading this, I know you love music, and you also hate when this happens to people. I’m putting out a plea to share his note through Facebook and help Gordie out.

Thanks in advance, it really means a lot over here.

My pre-war Gibson Six String Banjo that I have owned for 15 years, played, wrote and recorded with on tour and on record, is gone. Stolen? For sure missing. It was last seen at Brandon Manitoba March 2015 during the final show of the Big Sugar Yardstyle Tour. All theories as to where it might be have come up snake-eyes.

I am destroyed.

If anyone has seen or heard of its whereabouts please contact us at info@bigsugar.com . This instrument was lost due to employee negligence and so the person who has it will in no way be considered a thief.

It is quite unique in that it has playing card ” heart spade diamond ” carved into the face of the headstock (not factory) and a very elaborate flower pot painting on the back of the resonator (original).

If memory serves, it may still have a very dark yellow (almost green) sticker on the back of the headstock with the original guitar store name where it was first purchased.

This is what the back looks like and a link to some footage of it being played.

Many years ago my 1969 Gibson ES-335 was stolen and eventually returned through the kindness of strangers. I am very blessed to have it back.

The loss of this banjo has affected me deeply, I pray and remain optimistic that all people are basically good hearted and that it will be discovered and returned. Of course, a sizable reward is being offered to the kind soul who finds and returns it.

Please share if you can.

Lydia Lunch on her love for No Wave

“I love the term No Wave! I want no other term. I want No Wave hysteria. I love No Wave because it says nothing – it’s like ‘No Wave, no anything else’. To me, No Wave is audience un-friendly. It’s dissonant, it’s anti-tradition, none of it sounds alike. None of my music sounds alike – although there is a connective tissue. I like that No Wave is having a kind of resurgence and some influence in music, because it’s really just about putting it out there as aggressively and brutally as possible and not giving a shit about the fucking consequences. And that has to do with photography, film, music, and spoken word – it’s not just a music thing. I love the fucking term because nothing else makes sense to me. I never did punk music – I have nothing to do with fucking punk rock, I thought it was infantile. No Wave was very different, because punk rock was a social explosion – political, but fashion-oriented, and you know what it sounds like. [With] No Wave, nobody had any fashion sense except for me and James Chance. That wasn’t the point of it. Nobody sounded alike, and we didn’t give a fucking shit about anything. We didn’t feel like we were all in this thing together, we felt: ‘I’m insane, and if you are too, cool!’

“It was only a movement, in retrospect. At that point I was so anti-everything; everything had to meet a certain extreme validity, otherwise what’s the point?”
