National Album Day Celebrates Great British Groups with Seven Vinyl Releases on October 19, 2024

National Album Day returns on Saturday 19th October 2024 and this year will be themed around Great British Groups, following previous editions that included Women in Music, Debut Albums and, just last year, the 90s.

Presented in association with official broadcast partner BBC Radio 2 and now in its seventh year since launching in 2018, National Album Day sees the music community come together once again to celebrate and promote the art of the album.

All Saints’ iconic self-titled album is finally making its debut on 1LP vinyl with a limited-edition green colourway. With the signature blend of pop, R&B, and hip-hop, this release brings forth the timeless allure of the British girl group’s chart-topping hits, including “Never Ever,” “Under the Bridge,” and “Bootie Call.”

Babyshambles’ acclaimed 2007 album Shotter’s Nation will be available on 1LP clear vinyl. Taken from the original masters when Pete Doherty was at the pinnacle of his creative powers, Shotter’s Nation followed in the footsteps “Down In Albion,” the band’s debut album, and Doherty’s first album outside of his first band – the era-defining Libertines. Both were met with commercial and critical acclaim, breaking into the Top 10 of the album charts.

Idlewild’s fourth album Warnings/Promises has been certified Silver by the BPI and it’s the band’s second to break into the Top 10 following the success of their previous album, The Remote Part. After the release of The Remote Part, the band had a change in personnel with Gavin Fox replacing bassist Bob Fairfoull and touring guitarist Allan Stewart became a permanent member. Warnings/Promises saw them take a different approach to the writing process, involving the whole band for the first time with a sound that marked a shift towards melodic rock as well as contemporary folk. A more stripped back sound than their previous albums, it featured the singles “I Understand It,” “El Capitan,” and lead single “Love Steals Us From Loneliness.”

The Animals were a British rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962. They were a key player in the British Invasion of the United States in the mid-1960s and are best known for their raw sound that combined rock, blues, and rhythm and blues. The band’s lineup initially consisted of Eric Burdon (lead vocals), Hilton Valentine (lead guitar), Chas Chandler (bass guitar), Alan Price (keyboards), and John Steel (drums). This October marks the 60th Anniversary of The Animals’ self-titled debut album. Having never been reissued on vinyl before, the 60th Anniversary Edition sees the album pressed on yellow vinyl and adds the hit “House of the Rising Sun” to the track list which was only released as a single at the time. The album remains a staple in the classic rock canon and is recognised for its crucial role in the evolution of rock music during the 1960s. Its influence can still be felt in various genres and continues to resonate with new generations of listeners.

The Proclaimers, formed by twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid emerged in 1987. The duo are renowned for their singing style with a distinct Scottish accent and their infectiously melodic songs about love, politics, and life in Scotland. Well-known for their most memorable songs “Sunshine on Leith”, “I’m On My Way”, “Letter from America” and of course, the hit single “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”. This Is the Story is the debut studio album from The Proclaimers, originally released in 1987 and celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It contains the Gerry Rafferty-produced full band version of “Letter from America”, which reached number 3 in the UK Single Chart.

At the end of their US tour in June 1985 The Sisters of Mercy effectively split up. Returning in November 1987 with ‘Floodland’ (UK #9), and still aided by the trusty Doktor Avalanche, Eldritch hired former Gun Club and Fur Bible bassist Patricia Morrison to complete the new line-up. Featuring the hit singles ‘This Corrosion’ (UK #7), ‘Dominion’ (UK #13) and ‘Lucretia My Reflection’ (UK #20), production duties were shared with none other than famed Meat Loaf writer Jim Steinman. Available for National Album Day on 1LP black ice galaxy vinyl for a limited run.

The Stranglers are a British rock band formed in 1974, known for their eclectic sound that blends punk, new wave, and post-punk influences. With their distinctive blend of dark, often provocative lyrics and innovative instrumentation, they carved a unique niche in the music scene. Their 1981 album “La Folie” marked a notable evolution in their style, showcasing an embrace of new wave elements while retaining their signature edginess. The album features the hit single “Golden Brown,” which gained widespread acclaim for its haunting melody and unique rhythmic structure, encapsulating the band’s ability to merge art and rock music. “La Folie” solidified The Stranglers’ reputation as one of the most innovative and enduring acts of their era. Available for National Album Day on 1LP translucent pink vinyl for a limited run.

I never took the time to sit down and process all the things that have happened to me and I write about. This album is pouring myself out to all of you. You’ll Be Alright, Kid (Chapter 1) will include brand new single “Burning Down,” which is jumping in TikTok creates each day, currently boasting 38k videos on platform within a week of Alex first teasing the track. Custom Stickers in Schools: Educational and Motivational Uses

By Mitch Rice

In today’s educational environment, schools are constantly looking for creative and engaging ways to motivate students, support learning, and build a positive school culture. One simple yet powerful tool that has gained increasing popularity in classrooms is the use of custom stickers. Far from just decorative items, custom stickers serve a variety of educational and motivational purposes that benefit students and teachers alike.

Whether they’re used to mark achievements, enhance classroom organization, or spark creativity, custom stickers provide an inexpensive and flexible resource to support educational goals. In this article, we’ll explore the many ways custom stickers are being utilized in schools, and why they have become an essential tool for both educators and students.

Encouraging Positive Behavior with Custom Stickers

One of the most common uses of custom stickers in schools is to promote and reinforce positive behavior. Many educators incorporate custom stickers into behavior management systems, where students earn stickers for following classroom rules, showing kindness to their peers, or achieving personal goals. These stickers act as tangible rewards that students can proudly display on their notebooks, lockers, or even their clothing.

By giving students immediate, visual recognition for their good behavior, teachers can create a more positive classroom atmosphere and encourage a culture of respect and responsibility. Studies have shown that positive reinforcement is one of the most effective ways to improve student behavior, and custom stickers offer a fun and engaging way to implement this strategy.

In addition, some schools take this concept a step further by using custom stickers as part of a school-wide reward system. Students who collect a certain number of stickers may be eligible for additional privileges, such as extra recess time, or being named “Student of the Week.” This type of incentive-based system can be especially effective for younger children, who may be more motivated by visual rewards than by verbal praise alone.

Enhancing Classroom Organization and Communication

Custom stickers are also incredibly useful for improving classroom organization and communication. Teachers can create custom stickers to label supplies, designate student cubbies, or mark special areas of the classroom. This can help students navigate the classroom environment more independently and reduce confusion, especially for younger children who are still developing organizational skills.

For older students, custom stickers can serve as a simple and effective way to communicate expectations or reminders. For example, teachers can place stickers on student notebooks to indicate that an assignment needs to be revised, or on lockers to remind students of upcoming deadlines. The visual nature of stickers makes them a quick and easy way to convey important information, without the need for lengthy explanations.

Additionally, custom stickers can be used as a form of non-verbal communication between teachers and students. For example, a teacher might give out custom stickers with encouraging messages like “Great Job!” or “Keep Going!” on completed assignments. This personal touch can help build rapport between students and teachers, and provide students with the motivation they need to keep working hard.

Supporting Creative Expression and Learning

Beyond their practical uses, custom stickers also play an important role in supporting creative expression and enhancing the learning experience. Many schools encourage students to design their own custom stickers as part of art or design projects. This not only allows students to explore their creativity but also helps them develop important skills like graphic design, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

In addition to individual projects, custom stickers can also be used for collaborative activities. For example, teachers might assign group projects where students create custom stickers to represent a specific theme or topic they are studying. This could be anything from historical figures to ecosystems or mathematical concepts. By making learning a more hands-on, creative process, custom stickers help students engage with the material in new and exciting ways.

Another educational use for custom stickers is in early childhood education, where stickers can serve as learning aids for basic concepts like letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Teachers can create custom stickers featuring these elements and use them in a variety of activities, such as matching games, flashcards, or classroom displays. The interactive nature of stickers makes learning more dynamic and can help young children grasp these fundamental concepts more effectively.

Fostering School Spirit and Community

Custom stickers also play a role in fostering a sense of school spirit and building community. Schools often design custom stickers with their logos, mascots, or slogans, which can be distributed to students and staff during events like pep rallies, sports games, or fundraising activities. By wearing or displaying these stickers, students feel more connected to their school community and take pride in being part of something larger than themselves.

These types of custom stickers can also be used to promote unity and inclusivity within the school. For example, some schools create custom stickers to celebrate diversity, encourage anti-bullying, or promote kindness and empathy among students. By using stickers to spread positive messages, schools can create a more inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels valued and respected.

Conclusion: The Multifaceted Benefits of Custom Stickers in Schools

Custom stickers offer a wide range of benefits for both educators and students, making them a valuable tool in any school setting. From encouraging positive behavior to supporting creative expression, these small but impactful items can have a big influence on the classroom experience. Teachers can use custom stickers to improve organization, enhance communication, and motivate students, while schools can leverage stickers to promote school spirit and build a sense of community.

Moreover, the versatility of custom stickers means they can be adapted to meet the specific needs and goals of each classroom or school. Whether it’s for individual recognition, collaborative projects, or school-wide initiatives, custom stickers offer endless possibilities for enhancing education in fun and meaningful ways.

In the end, the use of custom stickers goes beyond their adhesive nature—they serve as powerful symbols of achievement, creativity, and connection that enrich the school environment in lasting ways.

How Spotify Helps Fans Connect with Their Favorite Artists: Listening Parties, Countdown Pages, Live Events, and More

When fans fall in love with an artist, they often want to engage on a deeper level. Spotify understands this desire and provides several ways to connect fans with their favorite artists, especially when crossing languages, borders, and cultures. Whether you’re showing support in real life or seeking exclusive content, Spotify offers features to strengthen fan-artist relationships through Listening Parties, Countdown Pages, the Live Events Feed, and Clips from artists.

Listening Parties

Spotify’s Listening Parties provide a live audio experience where fans can join their favorite artists and other top fans to celebrate new music releases. These sessions let fans hear behind-the-scenes stories, chat with other fans in real time, and listen to the music they love with the artist who created it.

This year, Spotify has hosted Listening Parties with artists like Peso Pluma, Bleachers, Gracie Abrams, and SEVENTEEN, with more to come.

Listening Parties are available to Premium subscribers in the U.S., ID, MX, and CA.

Countdown Pages

Countdown Pages are perfect for fans eagerly awaiting new music from their favorite artists. This feature lets fans presave an artist’s music, preview tracklists, watch exclusive Clips, and purchase merch. After presaving an album, fans will receive a push notification on release day, so they’ll never miss new music again.

Countdown Pages are available to Free and Premium subscribers worldwide.

Live Events Feed

Spotify’s Live Events Feed makes concert discovery easy and personalized, ensuring fans never miss a show when their favorite artists are in town. The feed provides tailored concert listings based on location and listening preferences, while also offering the option to browse upcoming concerts in other cities or countries.

The Live Events Feed is available to Free and Premium subscribers globally.

Clips from Artists

With Clips, fans can dive deeper into an artist’s world. These short vertical videos allow fans to discover unreleased tracks, hear the story behind a new song, view live performances, and more. Clips are tagged to tracks, making it easy to follow, save, and stream music while exploring the video content.

Artists’ Clips are available to Free and Premium subscribers in 78 markets.

With these features, Spotify continues to create ways for fans to build deeper connections with the artists they love. From live interactions to exclusive behind-the-scenes content, there are more ways than ever to stay connected.

Spotify Launches New Countdown To Vodcast Series, Offering Fans Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Access to Upcoming Album Releases

As fans eagerly await the release of their favorite artists’ new albums, the excitement can be overwhelming. To help fill that gap, Spotify has launched a groundbreaking vodcast series, Countdown To, giving fans an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at their favorite artists’ latest projects as the clock ticks down to album releases.

In July, Spotify introduced Countdown Pages, a feature designed to help artists build anticipation for their new music. This tool, accessible directly on an artist’s page, allows fans to preview tracklists, watch exclusive Clips, purchase merch, and even track the seconds until the official release.

Now, Spotify is enhancing this experience with Countdown To, which takes fans deeper into the creative process. The series features artists sitting down with fellow musicians, collaborators, family, or friends to discuss the themes, inspirations, and stories behind their upcoming albums. It offers a unique look at everything that goes into making an album.

“Countdown To is the latest effort in our ongoing commitment to spotlight artists and their new music on Spotify,” says Sarah Patellos, Head of Spotify Music Studios. “Working with director Karam Gill and mgx creative, these intimate conversations are shot documentary-style to truly explore each artist’s creative journey.”

Clips from the series will be available on each artist’s Countdown Page, while the full vodcast episode can be watched on Spotify and Spotify’s YouTube profile.

The debut episode features a candid conversation between Jelly Roll and MGK about Jelly Roll’s forthcoming album, Beautifully Broken. While fans have to wait until October 11 to hear the full album, this episode gives a deeper look into the music and the pair’s once-contentious artistic rivalry. “I got to sit down with MGK and give viewers a real window into a candid conversation between two artists as a part of Countdown To,” says Jelly Roll.

Why The MTV VMAs Still Matter

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have been a staple in the music industry for decades, and despite the shifting media landscape and evolving entertainment preferences, the VMAs continue to hold significant relevance, even if the channel doesn’t show music videos anymore. Here’s why the MTV VMAs still matter in today’s ever-changing world:

Showcase of Emerging Talent

One of the primary reasons the VMAs remain crucial is their role in showcasing emerging talent. The awards ceremony often highlights up-and-coming artists who might not yet have a widespread following but have made waves with their innovative music videos or performances. This exposure can be a game-changer for new artists, providing them with a platform to reach larger audiences and kickstart their careers. By shining a spotlight on fresh talent like Chappell Roan, Gracie Abrams, Benson Boone and Teddy Swims the VMAs play a vital role in shaping the future of music.

Cultural Impact

The VMAs are more than just an awards show; they’re a cultural event that often reflects and influences broader trends in music, fashion, and entertainment. The ceremony’s red carpet is known for its bold and trendsetting fashion statements, while the performances frequently push boundaries and set new standards. By mirroring and shaping cultural trends, the VMAs help define the zeitgeist of each year, making them a significant cultural touchstone. These are what Instagram moments were made for.

Iconic Performances

The VMAs have a long history of memorable and groundbreaking performances that captivate audiences and generate buzz. From Madonna’s provocative performances in the ’80s to Beyoncé’s unforgettable halftime show in 2016, the VMAs are known for delivering moments that become iconic in the music industry. These performances not only entertain but also often become cultural phenomena, remembered and talked about long after the event. In 2024, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Thee Stallion, Chappell Roan, Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Lenny Kravitz, Halsey, Katy Perry all performed in front of their fans.

Celebration of Diversity

In an industry that continues to evolve towards greater inclusivity, the VMAs are at the forefront of celebrating diversity. The awards show honors a wide range of genres, artists, and cultural backgrounds, reflecting the rich tapestry of the global music scene. By acknowledging and awarding artists from various genres and communities, the VMAs highlight the importance of representation and inclusivity within the music industry. Le Sserafim – “Easy” won the Push Performance of the Year, Anitta – “Mil Veces” won Best Latin video, Tyla – “Water” took home Best Afrobeats video, Lisa – “Rockstar” won Best K-Pop video and Seventeen won Best Group.

Fan Engagement

The VMAs are unique in their approach to fan engagement. With interactive voting and fan-driven categories, the awards show allows fans to have a direct impact on the outcome. This level of involvement creates a deeper connection between the artists and their supporters, making the VMAs not just an industry event but a fan-centric celebration. By incorporating fan input, the VMAs ensure that the show remains relevant and resonates with audiences. Forget that Gen Z aren’t watching cable, it’s social media, and this is where one study recognized roughly three in five Gen Z (63%) say they turn to social media at least once a week for news, a much higher share than traditional distribution methods like broadcast news (27%) or cable news (30%).

In conclusion, the MTV VMAs continue to matter because they serve as a platform for emerging talent, influence cultural trends, deliver unforgettable performances, celebrate diversity, and engage fans in meaningful ways. As long as the music industry evolves, the VMAs will remain a significant and vibrant part of the entertainment landscape, celebrating the artistry and impact of music in all its forms.
