Jimmie Allen Announces New Album Tulip Drive Arriving June 24, 2022

Hot on the heels of a highlight first GRAMMY Awards weekend, multi-platinum recording artist Jimmie Allen announced his third album Tulip Drive will arrive Friday, June 24 via Stoney Creek Records/BBR Music Group. The lead single from the record – “Down Home” – is available everywhere now, and Allen will perform it tonight on The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS.

Much like its predecessors, the album’s title is deeply personal to Allen’s family ties – Tulip Drive is the name of the street his late grandmother grew up on. His 2018 debut album Mercury Lane was named for the street Allen grew up on; his 2020 & 2021 releases Bettie James & Bettie James Gold Edition were named for his grandmother (Bettie Snead) and father (James “Big Jim” Allen), who passed away in 2014 and 2019, respectively.

“A lot of the songs on this album are from that time period. This is the first album where a lot of the songs are actually written based off a lot of my own personal life experiences – from relationships, the hardships of life, to the parties & the good times,” Allen shares. “A lot of these songs are based off things I went through when I was in later in high school and college, at a place where I was just learning a lot of life lessons from my grandmother. I wanted to honour her by naming this album Tulip Drive, after the street she lived on in Lewes, DE.”

Allen was nominated for Best New Artist at the 64th Annual GRAMMY® Awards this weekend and attended the show for the first time in addition to performing “Down Home” & presenting multiple categories during the Premiere Ceremony, which streamed live on YouTube and on live.grammy.com on Sunday, April 3. Watch his performance here and his presenting slot here. He also performed the song at the Recording Academy Honors, presented by the Black Music Collective, on Saturday, April 2. Other appearances throughout the weekend included attending the 31st Annual MusiCares Person of the Year Benefit Gala, Spotify’s Best New Artist celebration & participating in a panel for I AM Musicology Presents: Road to the GRAMMYs.

On Monday, April 11, Allen will appear on CBS Mornings for a one-on-one sit down with co-host Nate Burleson to discuss his career journey and the new single.

The music video for “Down Home” was co-directed by Allen & Chris Beyrooty and shot between Allen’s hometown of Milton, DE and nearby town of Lewes, DE. The video is a poignant visual complement to the song, purposely shot in black & white to keep focus on the song’s subject matter and features many locations vital to Allen and his father’s relationship – Allen’s childhood home, the baseball field his father taught him how to play on, and his father’s favourite restaurant, among others.

Hailed by Billboard as a “winner” and a “power ballad that exudes sincerity” by MusicRow, “Down Home” marks one of the proud Delaware native’s most personal, honest songs to date. The track impacted Country radio on March 14 as the most-added song and Allen’s biggest add day to date, with 60+ first-week stations.

Co-written by Allen, Cameron Bedell, Rian Ball & Tate Howell, the song takes shape as a letter to his late father. Billboard further noted the track as “a musical vessel detailing both precious moments he spent with his father, but also how life has progressed since his father’s passing.”

Allen is currently on the Down Home Tour – his first ever solo headline tour – which kicked off with a sold-out start earlier this year and recently notched his third career No. 1 with his single “Freedom Was A Highway.” He also earned a Male Artist of the Year nomination at the 57th ACM Awards (which he co-hosted alongside Dolly Parton & Gabby Barrett) and an Outstanding New Artist nomination at the 53rdNAACP Image Awards. Allen is currently the reigning CMA New Artist of the Year, having won the award in November 2021.

Hurray For The Riff Raff Announces 23 New Tour Dates Opening For Bright Eyes

Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) announces twenty-three new US tour dates, supporting Bright Eyes, beginning May 19, 2022 in Oklahoma City and continuing through July 3 in Omaha. Segarra (she/they) is currently on a North American headlining tour in celebration of LIFE ON EARTH, their Nonesuch Records debut. Summer dates in Europe begin July 16 in the UK and continue through September 20 in Berlin, with stops in Dublin, London, Paris, and Amsterdam, among others (full schedule below).

Life on Earth is a departure for the New Orleans-based Segarra. Its eleven new “nature punk” tracks on the theme of survival are music for a world in flux—songs about thriving, not just surviving, while disaster is happening. For their eighth full-length album, Segarra drew inspiration from The Clash, Beverly Glenn-Copeland, Bad Bunny, and the author of Emergent Strategy, adrienne maree brown. Recorded during the pandemic, Life on Earth was produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Bon Iver, Kevin Morby).

Life on Earth has received critical praise, appearing on most anticipated records of 2022 lists by NPR, Pitchfork, the Guardian, Stereogum, the Observer,Vulture, the Wall Street Journal, Paste, the Evening Standard, and the Irish Times, among others. The Guardian says, “What’s most impressive about Life on Earth is the way Segarra metabolises bleak and disturbing subjects into songs that brim with hope, beauty and cheer,” while the Observer says, “Hurray for the Riff Raff promises a manual for Life on Earth, a ‘nature punk’ album for tough times,” and NPR’s Ann Powers says, “If you need some music to take you forward in this strange winter, I think Life on Earth is gonna do it for you.” Mojo, in its four-star review, calls it “a remarkably delicate, tender record full of gentle empathy, of lines that ring with the truth of shared experience. Hurray for The Riff Raff might not be able to save the world, but Life on Earth is a compassionate, humane record at a time when it can only be a gift.”

Alynda Segarra was born and raised in the Bronx, which they left at age seventeen, running away from everything and everyone they knew, hopping freight trains or hitchhiking across the country in the company of a band of street urchins. Segarra moved to New Orleans in 2007 and formed two bands: Dead Man’s Street Orchestra and Hurray for the Riff Raff. In 2015, Segarra decamped to Nashville, then to New York, to make 2017’s critically praised The Navigator, an ambitious and fully realized concept album that was her quest to reclaim her Puerto Rican identity. Segarra’s previous records as Hurray for the Riff Raff are Crossing the Rubicon (EP, 2007), It Don’t Mean I Don’t Love You (2008), Young Blood Blues (2010), Hurray for the Riff Raff (2011), Look Out Mama (2012),My Dearest Darkest Neighbor (2013), and Small Town Heroes (2014).

Canadian Author & Music Historian TOM LOCKE Chronicles The Most Memorable “Moments In Time” in New Book

We all have a list of artists and songs that were major influences on us from youth to adulthood. They were the posters on our bedroom walls. They made up the playlists on our cassette cases or now, in our apps. They’re the audio bookmark in all the chapters of our lives. In reverence to the power of music and the indelible influence, it has had in his own life, Canadian entertainment executive, music historian, and author Tom Locke brings us his new book, “Moments In Time – Stories About Artists and Songs of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. For Fans of Music…From a Music Fan” — available now.

“This book is the culmination of a journey that started back in 1986 with an idea I had about creating a legacy to the music that shaped my life, and a desire to share this legacy in an entertaining and informative way with others,” says Locke.

Entertaining, informative, and interactive from cover to cover, “Moments In Time” fuels the reader with a more than soundbite-sized dive into the stories behind an intriguing aspect of each song and artist that it profiles, from popular to obscure. At the end of each short “story” is a QR code for the relevant song that readers can position their smartphone cameras over and open a file to listen to, adding an interactive, full-circle experience to the book.

How did Tommy James come up with the title for his hit record, “Mony Mony”? Who was the three-time Oscar winner to have a Top 10 record at the age of 67? What singer was classified as a two-time “one-hit wonder”? These are just a few of the classic hit questions that “Moments In Time” answers.

Many of them likely came up in the mind of the passionate music enthusiast that Locke has been throughout his life; a successful Vancouver-based Film and TV production executive since 1984, Locke grew up in Toronto in the ‘50s and ‘60s with radio as a staple in his house.

“Living in a ‘border’ town, we were privy to many major U.S. radio and TV stations and their programs,” he recalls. “It was one of those U.S. radio programs that gave me the inspiration for my legacy idea. That program was called The Rest of the Story, hosted by the incomparable newscaster Paul Harvey, who originated this nationally sponsored segment out of Chicago. His tag line ‘And now you know the rest of the story’ stayed in my mind.”

If each mystery-unraveling story in the book feels like it could also be narrated by a favourite radio host, you’d be feeling it right. “Moments In Time” was originally a five-minute radio segment that Locke created and first demoed in 1986 to air during drive times to and from work.

“An interesting musical fact or period of time would be introduced for the listener to ponder during the commercial break,” describes Locke. “After the break, the listener would get the ‘rest of the story’, culminating in the playing of the record mysteriously featured in the segment.”

“Moments In Time”, the book, is a curated collection of the scripts for Locke’s long-running “Moments In Time” (MIT) radio segments, which found a broadcast home in 2000 with Michael Godin’s “Treasure Island Oldies,” a weekly internet radio show with worldwide affiliates that have aired the weekly MIT feature for over 20 years since.

“The impetus for the book was to honour this milestone by sharing a selection of segments that have aired on Treasure Island Oldies over these years,” notes Locke.

Locke also credits our two-year, global pandemic for igniting the fire in him to make this long-held book idea a reality.

“With my traveling and physical interfacing with clients dramatically reduced, I was able to move this project from the corner of my desk and dedicate the appropriate amount of time required,” explains Locke in a recent interview with reviewvancouver.org. “However, my motivation was to put smiles back on people’s faces, and what better way than the tunes we grew up with in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.”

And the smiles of music fans who’ve already eagerly devoured the book are starting to show up in droves. Since its official launch last November, all the reviews for “Moments In Time” left by readers on Amazon.com are 100% five-star.

“In short, the book is not about me… It’s about the music we grew up with; music that put a smile on our faces and became part of who we are.”

Tom Locke’s “Moments In Time – Stories About Artists and Songs of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. For Fans of Music…From a Music Fan” is available now in both print and digital formats on Amazon worldwide.

Jesse Cook Reveals New “Solace” Single & Video Alongside New Cross-Canada Tour

Alongside the release of new single and video, “Solace,” multi-Platinum/Gold award-winning and internationally acclaimed producer, composer, and guitarist Jesse Cook announces newly updated Canadian dates for his highly-acclaimed “Tempest II” tour.

Originally marked for 2020 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of his acclaimed debut album, Tempest, the newly announced 18 homegrown shows will span from Quebec to B.C.; with 43+ cross-continent dates on the docket, Cook recently kicked off the tour in the U.S. alongside the release of his 11th studio album, Libre — to rave reviews.

“Nylon-string maestro Jesse Cook finds release in electronic beats on Libre, his latest fret-burning effort,” Guitar Player’s Jimmy Leslie reviews. “Libre is a return to that early DIY approach, but the deep electronic grooves differentiate the new album from any of Cook’s previous studio efforts…”

Released via his own Coach House label imprint, and distributed by Outside Music/Redeye, the 10-track album combines Cook’s iconic Spanish guitar flair with Algerian multi-instrumentalist Fethi Nadjem, modern trap rhythms, and 808 beats.

“I wrote and recorded Libre during the pandemic when, like most people, I was longing for freedom,” Cook shares of Libre. “My music was my escape from the four walls that surrounded me, and the storm that was swirling outside.”

The inspiration came from a long summer-day drive with his 14-year old, Cook reveals. “My daughter entertained me with her favourite playlists, much of which were trap and 808-inspired. I loved them too, and a question was planted in my mind: ‘what would my music sound like mixed with those sounds?’”

Featuring the newly released single, “Solace,” Libre was selected as JazzTrax Radio Show’s 2021 Album of the Year. “Jesse Cook is a master musician and composer, and he always delivers live,” Eclectic Arts’ Mark Sugiyama writes. “The world aspect of Portugal, Algeria, and Canada being represented just adds to the wonderful energy of the performances.”

It’s with that same zeal that Cook crosses Canada with upcoming dates in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia this Spring and Fall 2022.

“When it comes to classical guitar stylings, few can match Jesse Cook’s musical resume,” Inlander’s Seth Sommerfeld says. “The JUNO-winning Torontonian virtuoso infuses world music flair into his Flamenco fusion sound, often traveling to far-flung parts of the world like Colombia or Egypt to inject the authentic tones of a region’s traditional music into his own sonic blend.”

It’s been more than 25 years since the internationally-lauded virtuoso first stepped onto the scene with his now-iconic release, Tempest. In the time since he’s come to hold ten Gold and Platinum studio albums with a combined sales of two+ million copies, five concert DVDs and live discs, five PBS specials, and multiple awards — a JUNO win, 11 nominations, three Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, a Gemini, and an Acoustic Guitar Magazine Player’s Choice Silver Award.

The digital convergence of the past several years has also resulted in Cook’s music streaming in rather impressive numbers across a series of platforms; by Fall 2021, his Spotify stats had surpassed 55+ million, and plays on Pandora soared beyond the 300+ million milestone. YouTube’s universal visual appeal has also grown steadily for Cook’s connection with audiences, with his channel accumulating upwards of 25+ million views since 2010 — including 3+ million of those for “Azul.”

CHRIS CACHIA Channels Old-School MC Energy with Modern Hip Hop on “Abundant Bank”

Chris Cachia brings the heat as he channels old-school MC energy mixed with modern hip-hop production technique with the release of his most recent song, “Abundant Bank.”

Chris Cachia is a Canadian music-maker and word-shaper who draws inspiration from the golden-age of hip-hop that would focus on lyricism. Often addressing social issues through his storytelling, Cachia aims to call upon the power, and pleasure, that language has when in the right hands.

Cachia jumps right into his newest LP with a boom-bap track. Fueled by the fire embedded in Cachia’s flow and wordsmithing, “Abundant Bank” goes hard. Mixing personal struggles and triumphs into the fire creates a startling yet inviting aura that can only be found crowding around a roaring bonfire.

“Who levitated the track immensely / Cash had it static test me / Microphone keep it weepin’ gently / Still intensely still this frenzy / Still this will is buildin’ hefty / Top billin’ with the villain treachery / Thrill for the fill now an earful enemy / Chuck made a laid-back melody.”

“Abundant Bank” paints a picture of doing whatever is necessary to make ends meet and depicts the outlaw and out-of-place loner who will do whatever is necessary to provide for himself and his family. To evade capture, the wanted is now on the run, placed in the ‘Prowler Position’” — a reference to Cachia’s second song on the Persona EP.

No stranger to the theory that “art is pain,” Cachia uses his music to convey an uplifting message to his growing fan base.

“Creativity can be used as means to address mental health concerns and issues of social injustice. Good art often comes from difficult places,” he says.

Overall, Cachia’s combination of humility and perseverance creates an enveloping production with the potential to strike listeners harder than a moving truck. To make the offer sweeter, he delivers empowering messages and crafty storytelling packaged in catchy productions and wordplay.

Singer/Songwriter Laura Brino Brings Audiences Back Home with New Album, No More Surprises

Featuring Americana-roots sensibilities and solid songwriting, folk singer/songwriter Laura Brino returns after a 13-year hiatus with a new album, No More Surprises. Featuring a deep sense of maturity and grounding, it arrives alongside new single, “All I Need.”

After two years of being isolated, Brino’s new 11-song LP delivers not only the same signature breathy vocals and narrative songwriting as on albums past, but also comfort after time away and of uncertainty.

Supported by a rich array of Americana-inspired instrumentation such as fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and slide guitar, No More Surprises unveils a sentiment Brino is familiar with; having spent her life finding healing through music and art, the Annapolis, Maryland-based artist dedicates her life’s work to provide that same kind of healing to everyone around her.

Since her release of How We Survived back in 2009, Brino went on to release Snowglobe in 2012 under the moniker Lily and the Pearl — a project with her husband and fellow musician, Sean Jackson aka Dracula Jackson.

In the years following, she essentially disappeared from the music scene as she settled into her home life and began a family.

‘Essentially’ being key…

No More Surprises — including “All I Need,” written about her daughters — is a collection of songs that were written over the last ten years. Some fans will recognize a song or two that were in heavy rotation years back when she toured up and down the east coast in Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.

In early 2018, while pregnant with her second child, Brino began recording the release with local musician Ahren Buchheister who, at the time, was working on his own solo album. With a young child and another on the way, they chose to record separately as a way to manage parenthood and their music life. Once recording had started, Brino began bringing session players in to bring her Americana vision to fruition and, having finished recording her guitar and main vocals, she was set to give birth within a few weeks.

After a very traumatic birth that nearly took her and her daughter’s life, Brino struggled with PTSD and nearly stopped playing music altogether. The next year, she poured all of her energy into being a mother and a wife while the album sat on the shelf.

Once the pandemic hit, however, she decided to finish the album any way she could and, over the next two years while in and out of quarantine, Brino worked with Buchheister to lay down tracks and work with session players via Facetime in order to capture the sound she was looking for. She even recorded background vocals from the car while Buchheister ran cables from the studio out to the driver’s seat.

The release of this album symbolizes the end of the way things were and, for Brino, a time to move forward into a more certain future, while also healing from the past.

Written about her daughters, the video for “All I Need” features an array of home movies — including Brino’s own mother shown raising her kids, followed by some of Brino and her own, and closing with a montage of videos of moms and their kids submitted through Brino’s website.

No More Surprises also features the song, “Stay”; co-written with Jackson; the track tackles love in the time of mental health struggles, and the official music video features the duo, shot during isolation, in an atmospheric sepia tone.

“All I Need” and No More Surprises are available now.

BBC Music To Celebrate Sixty Years Of The Rolling Stones With A Season Of World Exclusive Programming

This Summer, the BBC will celebrate sixty glorious years of The Rolling Stones with a star-studded season of programming across television, radio and digital platforms.

The centrepiece is a world-exclusive four-part series of films, My Life as a Rolling Stone, to premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer this summer, produced by Mercury Studios. It tells the story of one of the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands in a way that has never been done before – by viewing the band through the musical lens of each member, delving deep into their personalities, passions and memories from the past sixty years. Four hour-long films, each an intimate portrait of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts, show how these individual musical geniuses came together to make the music that has provided the soundtrack to the lives of millions. The films feature unrivalled access to and newly-filmed interviews with the band members, and from a stellar cast of artists who’ve loved and been inspired by the band, including P.P. Arnold, Chrissie Hynde, Slash, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and Steven Tyler.

The landmark series, produced by Mercury Studios for the BBC, will include unseen footage and exclusive stories from Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood interwoven with new and archive interviews and performance. The story of Charlie Watts, who sadly passed away in August 2021, will be told via tributes from his fellow band members and his musical peers and admirers along with archive interviews of Charlie.

The Rolling Stones created the blueprint for every budding rock band. They have overcome tragedy and controversy to record some of the most instantly recognisable and beloved songs. They have embraced the full spectrum of popular music from gritty blues to heartrending ballads, from pure pop to hard-edged rock selling millions of records along the way. Since their live debut on 12th July 1962 at London’s Marquee Club, the Stones made stadiums and arenas their home with spectacular global tours over the last six decades.

The series, which will be broadcast on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer this summer, is directed by award-winning filmmakers, Oliver Murray (Bill Wyman, The Quiet One) and Clare Tavernor (Keith Richards: A Culture Show Special). Mercury Studios will distribute the films internationally.

Each of the four episodes will put one of the Stones in the spotlight, featuring their own personal take on the band, with added contributions about them from each of the other Stones and a cast of incredible contributors.

The four films are:

MICK JAGGER

Mick’s creative and commercial vision has been instrumental to The Rolling Stones’ success. He’s steered the band to incredible musical heights, striving to keep them unified through difficulties such fallouts, changing fashions and attitudes. Jagger’s continued fame at the heart of rock and roll is without parallel, and with fellow ‘Glimmer Twin’ Keith Richards he has written and produced many of the greatest rock anthems of all time. How on earth does he do it?

KEITH RICHARDS

This is a film about how important his unbridled passion has been to The Rolling Stones, and how the sheer power of playing live keeps them on the road. Keith’s uncompromising passion for the music he loves has driven the band to experiment with varying sounds and genres. And how important has his image of transgression and rebellion been to the legend of the Stones?

RONNIE WOOD

Nobody represents fun – and what happens when it isn’t anymore – more than the irrepressible Ronnie Wood. As the godfather of a very British sound and style, he was the one who helped the band regain their mojo through hard times when they needed it most. But, looking back, did the excesses go too far?

CHARLIE WATTS

Watts was a true musician to the core with a lifetime love of jazz, often cited by Mick and Keith as the rock and the glue that held the Stones together. For six decades he was the quiet force and swinging backbeat of the Stones and the least showy drummer in rock history. How did Charlie maintain his reputation as “the drummer’s drummer”, the unruffled mainstay and linchpin of the band, oblivious to the temptations of fame, but crucial to the band’s success?

BBC iPlayer Collection

In addition to the four-part BBC Two series, a curated collection of landmark concerts and documentaries will be available on BBC iPlayer this summer, including:

Crossfire Hurricane (2012)

Crossfire Hurricane provided a remarkable new perspective on the Stones’ unparalleled journey from blues-obsessed teenager in the early 60s to rock royalty.  The film combines extensive historical footage, much of it widely unseen at the time, with contemporary commentaries by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and former Stones, Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor.

The Rolling Stones: Totally Stripped (original version 1995, re-versioned edition 2016)

This film is a newly revised version of the documentary that was originally made to coincide with the release of the Stones’ Stripped album, released in November 1995, telling the story of two studio sessions and three live shows that made up the Stripped project.  The film follows the triumphant end of the Voodoo Lounge tour which found the band reimagining tracks from their back catalogue as acoustic, pared back versions, as well as cover versions.

RADIO 2

Along with the documentary films, the season will also include a world exclusive two-hour audio documentary, Rolling with The Stones, on BBC Radio 2, the UK’s most listened to radio station with 14.9m weekly listeners. This global audio premiere will air this summer.

Rolling With The Stones

Six decades ago, when Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Brian Jones and the late Charlie Watts played together for the first time in a scruffy pub in London’s Soho, a global phenomenon was born.  Sixty years later, this incredible rock’n’ roll band are still riding every musical wave and bucking every musical trend by the simple expedient of being themselves.

Drawn from hours of unheard interviews from the band’s own archives, alongside rarely heard music and performances, Rolling with The Stones offers the ultimate presentation of one of the defining stories of the last hundred years, told intimately and revealingly by the people who wrote it. Listeners will hear directly from Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards alongside the memories of Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor and the verité archive of the late Brian Jones. There will be tributes from the bandmates to the much missed Charlie Watts who died last year, as well as from Charlie himself.

It’s the story of one world’s greatest rock bands, but more than that, it’s the story of popular culture over the last sixty years in all its magnificent glory. There’s never been a band like The Rolling Stones, there’ll never be another, and Rolling with The Stones explains why.

Rolling With The Stones will be broadcast on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, with a complementary series – Rolling With The Stones Raw – available exclusively on BBC Sounds.

Nonso Amadi Featured As Spotify Radar Canada Artist For The Month Of April

Canadian-based Afro-R&B, soul singer, songwriter, and producer from Nigeria, Nonso Amadi is announced to be featured as Spotify’s RADAR Canada Artist for the month of April. By joining Spotify’s acclaimed global emerging artists program, fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the breakout artist with their “Get To Know” and “Clips” series through short videos and editorial support on official Spotify playlists.

The Spotify RADAR Canada Artist announcement follows Nonso Amadi’s triumphant return with his new track “Foreigner,” released through Def Jam Recordings stateside and Universal Music Canada, offering the opportunity to strategically focus on a range of key global markets, including his native region in Nigeria. “Foreigner” set the tone of Nonso’s comeback, garnering coverage in Billboard, Teen Vogue, COMPLEX, and NATIVE Magazine. Billboard Magazine said, “Amadi returns in a major way, his raspy, longing R&B vocals flirting with the smooth afrobeats instrumental.” To date, the track has amassed 975.7k total streams across DSP’s and continues to receive praise globally.

Beginning his musical career while studying in Nigeria at Covenant University and then Swansea University in the UK. Nonso Amadi transformed into a sonic-globetrotter after his move to Canada – leading him to fuse the soul & rhythm of African music with modern soft textures of R&B. With an affinity for contemporary R&B, Nonso developed a desire to explore North America and Africa in equal parts – citing Toronto-native Drake’s genre-hopping capability as an inspiration for his own creative fluidity. Nonso’s music is powered by borderless infusions and intention. “I really loved Mary J Blige, Brandy, Wyclef Jean, Paul Play. I love R&B because it’s slow enough to allow you to feel,” he says of his early experiences with the artform.

Nonso’s refreshingly honest yet tranquil approach to music has allowed the likes of Juls, Santi, and Odunsi The Engine — the latter of whom he collaborated with on the War EP’ — to entrench his arrival across Nigeria and the continent at large across the late ‘10’s. With over 100,000+ million streams across platforms, Nonso Amadi refuses to be the typical straight A-student stereotype. Instead, he stands tall as a constantly evolving, textured lyricist able to translate Alte, Afro-fusion and hip-hop into his R&B-canvassed approach to storytelling, best represented on his last EP Free (2019), which features Afrobeat’s heavyweights Simi and Mr Eazi.

In 2019, Nonso made the conscious decision to step away from social media and paused the release of music — all to take a deeper dive into his artistry and separate from noise and distraction. Unaware of the global pandemic looming, Nonso’s time to cleanse and create was stretched into a longer hiatus. Currently recording his debut album, with the support of Universal Music Canada and an international team — the now 26-year-old, Nonso Amadi is determined to shed even more of his creative-skin. “I want listeners to hear this next project and know who I am and what I’ve gone through. I want to make great songs that tell my story”.

Sex Pistols Announce ‘The Original Recordings’

For the first time in over 20 years, 20 of the Sex Pistols recordings from 1976 to 1978 are collected together to tell the story of one of the world’s most influential and extraordinary bands.

The Sex Pistols: The Original Recordings covers a historic period when the band were rarely out of the news or the charts and will be available on double vinyl, digital and CD, as well as limited edition double transparent green vinyl and collectors’ cassettes.

The Sex Pistols left the British Establishment shaking when they exploded onto the music scene, kickstarting what later became known as punk – a term the band were never comfortable with. Young people ripped up not just their musical forebears but their social ones too and Sex Pistols were the snarling, ferocious figurehead of the revolution.

They made one perfect, 40-minute album for the ages in 1977’s Never Mind The Bollocks and from its artwork to the individual players, the attitude and music – every bit of it influenced the world we live in today.

The record is frequently listed as one of the most influential albums of all time with musicians from Joy Division / New Order to Kurt Cobain, Noel Gallagher, Green Day, to YUNGBLUD all citing them as key inspiration. And this was not just musically, punk showed that anyone could create and many took the hint across fashion, art and design and more.

Their 1977 single “God Save the Queen” was banned by the BBC and reached Number 1 on the U.K.’s NME chart, but appeared at Number 2 on the Official U.K. Singles chart, leading to accusations that the song was purposely kept off the top spot. For the only time in chart history, the track was listed as a blank, to avoid offence to the establishment.

The collection soundtracks the period and features key singles “Anarchy In The UK,” “God Save The Queen,” “Pretty Vacant” and “Holidays In The Sun,” essential tracks from Never Mind The Bollocks, further originals and covers from The Great Rock & Roll Swindle soundtrack album and some essential B- sides in “I Wanna Be Me” (the flipside of “Anarchy…”), “Satellite” (the b-side of “Holidays In The Sun”) and “Did You No Wrong” (from “God Save The Queen”).
