Indigenous Queer Artist Edzi’u Drops New Single “This Love” Ahead of Upcoming EP Tunnel Vision

Tahltan and Tlingit Canadian artist Edzi’u unveils her latest musical journey with the ethereal echoes of new wave and rich cultural storytelling. Her new single, “This Love,” leads the way for her upcoming record. The indie pop storyteller’s EP, ‘Tunnel Vision,’ delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and grief across four tracks. Through a deeply sensual and vulnerable ensemble of songs, Edzi’u intertwines a spectrum of human emotions, captivating listeners with her modern 80s pop sound, delicate vocals, and passionate lyricism.

“This Love” is a deeply romantic and poetic lead single, combining emotive lyrics over dark and haunting synth melodies. As she sings of a love that appears to awaken the strongest of emotions – desire and hate – Edzi’u delivers an honest, addicting and otherworldly musicality. Although expressed through lush vocals and light-as-a-feather composition, “This Love” is successful in lighting a fire within anybody who listens to it.

“Sugar” is an appropriately sweet song off of Tunnel Vision as it delivers a story of past lovers with its soft reverb and longful songwriting. This track blends seamlessly into “Not Enough,” a melancholy number that dresses futuristic beats as an 80s pop ballad.

The EP ends with “Ego Death,” a more upbeat number compared to its predecessor as it decorates itself with pulsating electro-pop drenched in reverb drums. Expressing a story of strength and liberation, “Ego Death” tells the story of somebody who is rising above a love that they realize isn’t real.

Following the announcement of Tunnel Vision, which is slated for a summer 2024 release, Edzi’u has several tour dates throughout this summer including Adaka Festival, Jam In Jubilee, Vancouver Pride and Vines Art Society.

Edzi’u is a Tahltan and Tlingit artist based in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. As she fuses her inspirations of cultural storytelling with ethereal vocals, Edzi’u draws inspiration from her roots and life experience as an indigenous person, delivering a discography and musicality that is deeply poetic and impactful. Her upcoming EP Tunnel Vision is preceded by two full-length studio albums, including Kime Ani (2018) and Potlatch in the Box (2023). Following her sophomore album, Edzi’u made a name for herself as an inimitable force in the Canadian music industry and has unapologetically expressed her two-spirit indigiqueer identity. Today, French Montana announced his 2024 ‘Gotta See It To Believe It’ Tour. The exclusive 7-city tour kicks off on August 1 at Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford making stops across North America in Buffalo, Chicago, Toronto and more before wrapping up in Philadelphia at The Fillmore Philadelphia on August 25.

John Entwistle‘s Rarities ‘Oxhumed – Volume Two’ Featuring Unreleased, Remixed And Remastered Studio Tracks, And Live Recordings Is Coming In August

John Entwistle is best known as the legendary bassist for the Who. Nicknamed the Ox and Thunderfingers, Entwistle’s music career spanned over four decades and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Who in 1990. Renowned for his musical abilities, he was voted as the greatest bassist of all time in a 2011 Rolling Stone magazine readers’ poll and in its special “100 Greatest Bass Players” issue in 2017. Bass Player Magazine named Entwistle at number seven.

Rarities Oxhumed – Volume Two is the second of the series of posthumous releases coming from John Entwistle. This compilation was curated by drummer Steve Luongo, who served as John Entwistle’s producer, bandmate, business partner and good friend for many years. As Luongo states, “When I agreed to do two volumes of John Entwistle rarities, I knew volume two had to be even better than volume one. It is!” The collection of songs on Volume Two are from his years with the John Entwistle Band and include re-mastered versions of studio tracks including “Endless Vacation”, alternate mixes of tracks like “Sometimes”, and live tracks including The Who cuts “Real Me”, “Long Live Rock” and an epic version of “Young Man Blues”. The latest preview track to be released is the Who cut “Had Enough.”

Rarities Oxhumed – Volume One was quickly embraced by longtime fans as it featured gems like “Bogey Man” featuring Keith Moon, “Where You Going Now” (demo for the Who), and a raw live version of “Trick of the Light” recorded during the John Entwistle Band’s final tour in 2001. Deko Entertainment is thrilled to have been able to bring both volumes of this unearthed music of John Entwistle to the fans and forever solidify him as one of the greatest rock musicians ever.

Paul Weller’s “Fly On The Wall” B-Side And Rarities Reissue Out August 9

Paul Weller’s 2003 compilation “Fly On The Wall” – a collection of b-sides, remixes and rarities is being given the reissue treatment on August 9th.

A triple vinyl compilation, it brings together rarities from Paul’s time first at Go! Discs and then subsequently Island Records.

Spanning the period 1991 – 2001, the set hasn’t been available since its original release in 2003.

Additionally, this release will also be made available digitally for the first time.

Spanning a time when Weller was incredibly prolific and on the top of his game – so much so, he could throw some of this material onto B sides when it could so easily sit side by side on any of the 3 albums released around this period.

Bustling with energy and style, this collection is a stellar document of a star maturing and growing in confidence. Highlights include: The Loved, Fly On The Wall and The Riverbank (a reworking of a classic Jam B side – Tales From The Riverbank). The track-list also features Weller’s take on some classic tunes, including Lennon’s Sexy Sadie & Instant Karma, Dylan’s I Shall Be Released and a sparkling live version of Neil Young’s Ohio which was originally on The Weaver E.P. Remixes include Portishead’s working of “Wild Wood”.

Catfish And The Bottlemen Announce 10 Year Anniversary Release Of ‘The Balcony’

As they prepare for their groundbreaking return to the live circuit this summer, BRIT Award-winning, arena-filling giants Catfish and the Bottlemen today announce a special anniversary reissue of their multi Platinum-selling breakthrough debut album The Balcony. Released on September 13, the album will be available on limited edition 1CD, Cassette and ultra-clear 2LP with inverted white artwork and 6 bonus tracks. Fans can also access a 7” box set, limited to 2,000 copies worldwide, which features the full album, plus “Hourglass” (Ewan McGregor version) and rare bonus track “ASA”, available on a 7” again for the first time after the original pressing 10 years ago.

Written by Van McCann and recorded in London’s Chapel Studios with producer Jim Abiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys), The Balcony propelled Catfish and the Bottlemen into the UK top 10 and the public consciousness, scooping them the BBC Introducing Award at the 2014 BBC Music Awards and British Breakthrough act at the 2016 BRIT Awards. Featuring the BPI Platinum certified hits “Cocoon” and “Kathleen” as well as another 4 certified Gold singles, its infectious, arena-ready riffs and relatable lyrics about small town teenage life won the band legions of fans. An unrivalled work ethic that saw them relentlessly tour the UK, Europe, the US and beyond has forged a connection that’s stronger than ever 10 years, hundreds of shows and millions of album sales later.

The 2LP, 1CD and cassette releases feature the original track listing plus special acoustic versions of “Cocoon”, “Kathleen” and “Pacifier”, recorded in 2015 for 1 Mic 1 Take, “Rango” (single version), longtime supporter Ewan McGregor’s 2015 acoustic cover of “Hourglass,” and rare fan favourite bonus track “ASA”. Longstanding fans will be thrilled to get their hands on the 7” box set, which is inspired by the limited run of 7” singles used to promote the band before the album’s release. The news of the reissue comes in the wake of a spectacular return from Catfish and the Bottlemen, who sold out their biggest ever show, at Liverpool’s 32,000 capacity Sefton Park, just a week after going on sale. The Liverpool concert comes ahead of three huge open air shows in Cardiff and Edinburgh, announced last month, both of which went on to sell out in minutes, as well as their epic return to the Reading & Leeds Festival mainstage, which they headline for the second time in 2024. They’ll play Dublin’s RDS Simmonscourt on August 31 before heading off on extensive tours of Australia and the US, with nearly half of these huge global shows already sold out.

Catfish and the Bottlemen’s arena-filling sonic outlook has cemented their place amongst Britain’s most successful bands of the 21st Century. Signing to Island Records in 2014 after years of intense touring, The Balcony was followed by their landmark #1 album The Ride and 2019’s Gold certified The Balance. Katseye Announces Debut EP, Set For August Release

KATSEYE – the first-ever global girl group formed using KPOP artist development methodologies – is launching in epic fashion this summer, dropping two singles in the lead up to the release of the group’s debut EP, out in August via HYBE x Geffen Records, and the premiere of a Netflix docuseries about their origin story.

The bold first single from KATSEYE – will be released June 28 12:00 AM ET / June 27 9:00 PM PT. Pre-save HERE. The group’s second single will follow in July.

The Netflix docuseries “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” follows the year-long process of creating this one-of-a-kind girl group. With unprecedented access, the series will be a compelling portrayal of the journey to global stardom, including insight into the unique training and development program from HYBE and Geffen Records. The series, which will premiere this summer, was directed by Nadia Hallgren (Becoming) and produced by HYBE, Interscope Films and Boardwalk Pictures.

Ranging in age from 16 to 21 and coming from immensely different cultures, the six members of KATSEYE are: DANIELA (Atlanta, GA USA); LARA (Los Angeles, CA USA); MANON (Zurich, Switzerland); MEGAN (Honolulu, HI USA); SOPHIA (Manila, Philippines); and YOONCHAE (Seoul, South Korea).  Today, they revealed the KATSEYE logo. Grossman’s Tavern is excited to announce that applications for the Amy Louie Grossman’s Music Scholarship are now officially open. The application period runs from June 10th to September 23rd, 2024. Musicians can find application details and submit their proposals at Grossman’s Tavern ALGMS.

The scholarship winner and runner-up will be revealed during a special fundraiser event on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, at 7 PM at Grossman’s Tavern, located at 377 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON. The event will feature live performances from the winners and is set to be a memorable evening celebrating Toronto’s vibrant music scene.

Established in 2012, the Amy Louie Grossman’s Music Scholarship was created by the Louie family, owners of Grossman’s Tavern, in memory of Amy Louie, a cherished member of the family and the business. Amy’s vision was to support local musicians, and this scholarship, valued at $2,000 CAD, aims to fulfill her dream by providing vital funding to help artists further their careers.

Interested musicians or bands are encouraged to submit a proposal outlining their plans for the scholarship funds. Applications must be received by Monday, September 23rd, 2024.

Sultans Of String Leader Chris McKhool Inducted Into 2024 Burlington PAC Hall of Fame

Burlington has a rich history of arts and culture that has played a key role in the city’s success, dating back to the historical Brant Inn that featured jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. For years, Burlington artists and community leaders have upheld this tradition while laying the groundwork for the next generation of cultural innovators.

The Burlington Performing Arts Centre established its Hall of Fame in 2013. Every year since then, the Hall of Fame has recognized artists who have made significant contributions to the performing arts in Burlington, including the internationally acclaimed conductor Boris Brott, and legendary Canadian comedian and broadcaster Gordie Tapp.

The latest addition to this list is Burlington-based singer-songwriter Chris McKhool. McKhool is a 7-time winner of the Canadian Folk Music Awards and a 4-time JUNO Award nominee for both his music for young people and his involvement in the band Sultans of String. He is a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient, and has received numerous awards from Folk Music Ontario, Canadian Independent Music Association and SiriusXM.

McKhool’s music has hit Top Ten Billboard music charts, and he has been touring the world with both adult and children’s concerts for two decades, reaching over 1 million children live in concert, and has appeared on Mr. Dressup, YTV’s Treehouse, and the CBC. He is the bandleader for Sultans of String, who just won “Best Musical Film” at the Cannes World Film Festival for their documentary Sultans of String: The Refuge Project, that screened at festivals across the country and globally. Simply put, McKhool is an artistic leader that has strengthened Burlington’s cultural landscape.

McKhool’s induction was announced at the 2024-2025 ‘BPAC Presents’ Season Launch.

“This is such a tremendous honour and I am so grateful for support I have received here in Burlington to be able to grow as an artist,” McKhool said in a statement about his Award win.

“My wife grew up in Burlington, and so we moved here to raise our daughter, and I discovered that there is an incredible camaraderie in Burlington among artists. I have to give special thanks to the Burlington Arts & Culture Fund, especially during the pandemic years, because with their support I have been able to host concerts featuring amazing indigenous artists, and new immigrant artists to schools in all six wards.”

McKhool went on to discuss the importance of creating art for young people, noting “People sometimes say that kids are the audience of tomorrow, but actually they are an audience right now that needs great art, just like we do as adults, to make sense of the world and their lives.”

He is currently touring with Sultans of String in their groundbreaking show called Walking Through the Fire, a collection of collaborations with First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists across Turtle Island.
